How can technology help break down barriers to receiving and providing quality eye care?
National Vision is asking optometry students to share their perspective on “Increasing Access to Care Through Remote Care” for a chance to win a $7,500 scholarship! Share your take on how remote care can help overcome common barriers to receiving quality eye care, as well as how practicing remotely can benefit optometrists.
As a future optometrist, National Vision wants to hear your perspective on the importance of remote eye care and how you plan to embrace evolving technologies as a primary eye care practitioner. As a bonus, share how you think our communities can benefit from hybrid care: the combination of traditional modes of practices (in-person exams) with emerging technologies (remote care and beyond); noting that the goal of hybrid care is to provide more and better access to care while increasing convenience for both doctors and patients.
Why is this topic important?
The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in a dramatic increase in remote eye care due to unique challenges associated with seeing patients in person. In fact, remote care is now widely accepted and commonly used in most facets of overall health and medical care. The optical community is no exception, with new technologies changing the way patient care is provided. Remote care can help overcome many of the barriers that prevent patients from receiving the eye care they need—eye care that also offers an important window into their overall health. For optometrists, remote care holds its own unique benefits, most notably improving work-life balance.
